Hello everyone! Today, we have a special guest, Kimi Nishimoto, a fantastic myofunctional therapist from Japan. She specializes in online therapy that focuses on improving tongue, lip, and cheek functions. Kimi's therapy aims to enhance breathing, sleep quality, and alleviate head and neck pain. In this session, we will explore five compelling reasons why nose breathing is beneficial for beauty purposes.
1. Sharper Jawline
Firstly, let's discuss the first reason a sharper jawline. Mouth breathing can lead to sagging and a less defined jawline. For instance, during my childhood, I primarily breathed through my mouth, resulting in loose jowls and a drooping appearance. On the other hand, when we breathe through our nose, our lips naturally stay closed, promoting a forward position and a relaxed state, ultimately contributing to a more pronounced and well defined jawline.
2. Dark Circle
The second reason is the connection between dark circles and nose breathing. Although they may seem unrelated, dark circles are often a sign of poor sleep quality. Mouth breathing can be inefficient, causing the body to exert extra effort to breathe. In contrast, nasal breathing helps the body relax and improves blood flow by dilating tissues and enhancing circulation. By prioritizing nose breathing, sleep quality is optimized, resulting in better blood flow and reduced dark circles. Therefore, dark circles are not solely a result of sleep duration, but also a reflection of sleep quality and overall circulation.
3. Double Chin
The third reason involves the connection between nose breathing and double chin. When we breathe through our mouth, the mouth and tongue tend to drop low, contributing to the appearance of a double chin. By focusing on nose breathing and lifting the tongue up, we can improve the look of the double chin. Additionally, mouth breathing can cause the jaw and maxilla to drop, affecting the position of the eye socket. This downward shift can create hollows under the eyes, resulting in the appearance of dark circles or eye bags. By maintaining proper tongue posture and preventing facial drooping, we can achieve a more balanced and aesthetically pleasing facial structure.
4. Smooth lips
The fourth reason highlights the impact of nose breathing on achieving smooth and soft lips. When we breathe through our mouth, saliva tends to accumulate, leading to the temptation of frequent lip licking. However, excessive licking can dry out the lips, causing chapping, sores, and a rash around the lip edges. By practicing nose breathing and keeping the lips gently sealed, we can prevent saliva accumulation and maintain smoother, softer lips. 5. Drooling
Occurs when our mouth is open, allowing liquids to easily fall out. This can happen to kids in school who mouth breathe while working on their papers, as well as babies and anyone else. In my twenties, I didn't know that mouth breathing was bad, and I would often unintentionally drool while talking or working. This is known as myofunctional disorder, where weak lips allow saliva to escape, which can be embarrassing. To prevent this, it's important to keep our lips together. Night time drooling happens when our lips are not fully sealed during sleep, causing saliva to leak out the sides. This can lead to crusties or sores in the corner of the mouth, indicating open mouth sleep or nighttime mouth breathing. Mouth breathing is the easier option for air intake compared to breathing through the nose, so we need to create barriers to encourage nose breathing. Keeping the tongue up helps maintain closure and proper airflow in the airways. In summary, breathing through the nose is beneficial as it acts as a filtration system, removing impurities from the air. It also produces nitric oxide, which reduces inflammation, improves circulation, blood flow, and sleep quality. Nasal breathing offers numerous advantages for overall well-being.
Summary:
In conclusion, prioritizing nose breathing over mouth breathing offers a multitude of benefits for our overall facial appearance and well being. It helps create a sharper jawline by promoting proper alignment and a more defined jaw. Nasal breathing also contributes to better sleep quality, reducing dark circles and improving blood flow. By breathing through our nose and maintaining proper tongue posture, we can prevent the appearance of a double chin and achieve a more balanced facial structure. Additionally, nose breathing helps keep our lips smooth and soft by avoiding saliva accumulation and excessive lip licking. Finally, addressing the issue of drooling, both during wakefulness and sleep, by keeping our lips together and practicing nose breathing can prevent embarrassment and support better airflow. Overall, nasal breathing acts as a filtration system, produces nitric oxide, and improves circulation, blood flow, and sleep quality, providing numerous advantages for our overall well being and appearance.
