Don't do those while working out

Greetings, everyone! I'm excited to delve into the topic of what to avoid while working out, especially if you're looking to enhance the beauty of your face. I've compiled a list of five essential don'ts that you should keep in mind to maximize the benefits of your workout routine while preserving and promoting facial aesthetics. By avoiding these common mistakes, you can ensure that your exercise regimen works harmoniously with your beauty goals. So, without further do, let's dive into these five key don'ts for achieving a more beautiful face through exercise.

1. Do not overwork the upper trapezius muscle

One important tip is to avoid overworking the upper trapezius muscle, especially if we spend a lot of time at a desk, using a computer or phone with poor posture. The upper trapezius tends to be overworked while the middle trapezius is less active, and the lower trapezius is often neglected. It's generally fine to train the middle and lower trapezius muscles, but in my opinion, excessive focus on the upper trapezius may not be necessary. Overworking this muscle can lead to shoulder or neck pain and create tension, which can affect the face and cause sagging. While there are various exercises available for the trapezius muscles, it's important to be mindful of not overdoing it, unless specific training is required for bodybuilders or athletes. However, as a facial muscle expert rather than a fitness trainer, I would love to hear your thoughts, opinions, advice, or feedback on this matter.

2. Clenching

Another important aspect to avoid is excessive clenching during certain exercises. While it's not grinding, clenching your teeth too much, known as TCH, can create unnecessary tension. It's crucial to understand that your upper and lower teeth should not be constantly touching during workouts. Maintaining a good level of tension is important, but excessive clenching can lead to overworking certain muscles. For example, when performing exercises like bicep curls, excessive pressure on the teeth can lead to overactivity in the risorius and masseter muscles. This is particularly problematic if you already experience TMJ pain or jaw discomfort. Furthermore, clenching can contribute to a more square shaped face. It's essential to be mindful of this and avoid excessive clenching during your workouts to promote a more balanced and aesthetically pleasing facial appearance.

3. EEE same as similar to clenching

Another crucial point to consider is the excessive activation of the neck muscles, particularly the sternocleidomastoid (SCM) and trapezius. This issue is similar to clenching but even more concerning as it can result in the formation of lines. The neck is already an area where the muscles are prone to overworking, so it's essential to avoid further straining these muscles. The development of lines in this region may be harder for me to demonstrate, but I have observed it frequently in individuals at the gym before the COVID era. Excessive muscle activation in this area can lead to sagging and an undesirable appearance. It's crucial to refrain from overtraining the muscles in this region to prevent the formation of lines and maintain a more youthful and lifted facial appearance.

4. Mouth Breathing

An important aspect to address is mouth breathing during workouts. While it's understandable that during intense exercises, mouth breathing may be necessary to meet your oxygen needs, it is advisable to prioritize nose breathing whenever possible. Mouth breathing is considered an expedient way to breathe when you're gasping for air, but in general, for lighter exercises, try to rely more on nose breathing than mouth breathing. In my upcoming video, I will be collaborating with my friend Kimi, a myofunctional therapist and dental hygienist, who will shed light on the significance of nose breathing for both beauty and overall health. She will also provide guidance on how to train yourself to incorporate nose breathing effectively. Make sure to stay tuned for this valuable information.

5. Duck Lip and Breathing

Focuses on two important aspects: duck lip and breathing techniques. Firstly, it's crucial to avoid mouth breathing during workouts as it is not beneficial for your overall well being. Additionally, performing exercises that involve puckering your lips can lead to unwanted wrinkles and tension in the chin area, which we want to avoid. Using a water bottle at the gym can also contribute to this issue, as it often requires unnatural lip and jaw movements. I previously created a video addressing proper drinking techniques, so I encourage you to check it out for more information. These are the five key "don'ts" I wanted to share with you, especially since my gym recently reopened after a long closure due to the pandemic. While I personally prefer online workouts, I hope these guidelines will help you navigate your gym sessions effectively. Remember, avoid overworking the trapezius, refrain from clenching, be mindful of excessive neck muscle engagement, prioritize nose breathing during lighter exercises, and minimize duck lip and water bottle-related actions to prevent sagging and unnecessary wrinkles.

Summary:

In conclusion, when it comes to working out and beautifying your face, there are several key points to keep in mind. First, avoid overworking the upper trapezius muscle, as it is often already overactive due to poor posture and excessive screen time. Excessive clenching should also be avoided, as it can lead to tension in the jaw and an undesirable square-shaped face. Additionally, be cautious of excessive activation of the neck muscles, as it can result in the formation of lines and sagging. It is advisable to prioritize nose breathing during workouts whenever possible, as mouth breathing can have negative effects on both beauty and overall health. Finally, be mindful of actions such as duck lip and unnatural jaw movements while drinking from a water bottle, as they can contribute to wrinkles and tension in the chin area. By following these guidelines, you can enhance the effectiveness of your workouts while promoting a more balanced and aesthetically pleasing facial appearance.
